Oftimes, the choir will build chords progressively further from the ground given or the pianist will shift to the new suggested tonal center.  I believe the choral director over at Westminster Choir College used this extensively.</description>

		<description>I loved Modus Novus as an undergrad. I still look at it from time to time. It&#039;s just that that sing-by-interval,  decontextualized approach isn&#039;t always appropriate.

There was a companion to that book - the title of which escapes me now - of tonal pattern.</description>
